POSITION:                           COMMUNITY PROGRAM COORDINATOR

HOUR OF WORK:                  FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (35 HRS/WEEK to SEPTEMBER 2026)

REPORTS TO:                       WELLNESS DIRECTOR

WAGE:                                  $30/hour

PROGRAM

The Wellness Department, in collaboration with the SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation (TFN) and broader community, is responsible for increasing the capacity and sustainability of the Department and enhance engagement/ownership of the wellness of the TFN community. The Department develops and implements wellness programs that incorporate the traditions, values and strengths of the Nation.  The Wellness Department delivers a range of community wellness programs and wellness promotion services to the TFN community.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This position will help the SȾÁUTW̱ community bring about social change and improve the quality of life. As a community program coordinator, you are to work with families or whole communities, empowering them to:

  • Identify their assets, needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities
  • Plan what they want to achieve and take appropriate action
  • Develop activities and services to generate aspiration and confidence 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a link between communities and a range of other local authorities.
  • Work closely with Community Support Liaison
  • Address inequality with the communities perceived to be culturally, economically or geographically disadvantaged.
  • Work on specific issues (e.g. mental health, public transport) with groups such as the youth, the long-term unemployed, families with young children.
  • Identify community skills, assets, issues and needs.
  • Develop new resources in dialogue with the community and evaluate existing programs.
  • Raise and manage funds to assist with SȾÁUTW̱ Elder Program.
  • Liaise with interested groups and individuals to set up new service.
  • Recruit and train paid and voluntary staff within various areas.
  • Plan, attend and coordinate Elders events.
  • Encourage participation in activities for all elders.
  • Ensure elders budget is on track for fiscal year.
  • Provide administrative assistance when required. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma);
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a community support role;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required as a condition of employment.

  • Fundraising – there is an increasing need to identify and pursue sources of funding
  • Life experience and language skills will be an aid to this role to make important connections with those being helped.
  • Sound knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and publisher using Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and external contacts;
  • Strong work ethic including the ability to take initiative; to attend work on a regular and consistent basis, and to demonstrate a collaborative approach to problem solving.
