POSITION:                           HOUSING OUTREACH WORKER

HOUR OF WORK:              FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK)

REPORTS TO:                     HOUSING MANAGER

WAGE:                                  $28/hr to $32/hr

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION   

The Housing Outreach Worker’s role consists of liaising with tenants and community members to provide support, facilitation, and system navigation. The Housing Outreach Worker must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply culturally safe and competent care, including when working with Indigenous peoples.
The designate must maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, Chief and Council, community members and public.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and coordinate tenant seminar series geared towards rental property maintenance
  • Support tenant families with accessing community resources
  • Assist with onboarding new tenants, move-in and move-out logistics, and provide ongoing support in various social aspects
  • Assist property management with administrative tasks
  • Sound knowledge of current social issues such as poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions, domestic violence, child protection, etc
  • Ability to apply a high degree of discretion in establishing supportive, trusting relationships with tenants, while respecting the role and obligations of property management staff according to TFN internal policies
  • Experience with tenant-landlord relationships would be an asset
  • Experiencing working in an indigenous community would be an asset
  • Experience in supporting diverse populations that face multiple barriers to housing
  • Sound knowledge of community resources and methods of accessing social programming

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a diploma or certification program in community social service, community mental health, or other relevant discipline
  • Considerable experience in direct supportive counselling with diverse populations that face multiple barriers to successful housing
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the employer
  • Experience developing a variety of written reports, policy and procedures, analyses, presentations and other documentation;
  • Experience developing, managing and controlling operating budgets;
  • Experience managing projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to create relationships with other indigenous housing service providers
  • Ability to responsibly enforce SȾÁUTW̱ Housing Policy
  • Ability to assist groups to develop and co-ordinate community activities and programs
  • Ability to build and maintain professional, confidential relationships with tenants
  • Experience/familiarity with First Nation housing
  • Ability to work effectively across organizational departments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Strong awareness of cultural diversity
  • Strong skills in crisis intervention, mediation, and conflict resolution
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic computer systems
  • Other administrative duties as required by the Housing Manager or the designate
