POSITION:                           Accountant

HOUR OF WORK:              FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK)

REPORTS TO:                     Finance Manager

WAGE:                                  $60,000 - $70,000/annually

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining, organizing, and delivering all TFN financial operations and goals. The position provides confidential financial support to the CEO, the CFO, and the TFN departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, Amazon, TAS , etc
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements, including timely reporting to Indigenous Services Canada and other key partners.
  • Scan, upload, and verify supporting documentation of A/P and A/R in Adagio accounting software.
  • Work closely with program managers on budget planning and expenditure monitoring and assist the Finance Manager with preparing departmental budgets and reports.
  • Act as a backup for other finance team members during absences.
  • General administration duties, including other duties as required by TFN.
  • Filing of accounting documents
  • Deposit cheques
  • Provide bookkeeping for Economic Development Corporations
  • Carries out other duties essential to the position as directed by the Finance Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • CPA or working towards a CPA Designation, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3 years’ experience working with a First Nation organization in an accounting position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
  • Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required as a condition of employment.

  • Sound organizational skills and extremely detail-oriented;
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills including the ability to provide, obtain or follow clear, concise and accurate information orally and in writing (including spelling, grammar, context and structure);
  • Ability to exercise initiative and courtesy and to assess situations and recommend solutions;
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction, act on own initiative, set own priorities and meet tight or changing deadlines;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and external contacts;
  • Strong work ethic including the ability to take initiative; to attend work on a regular and consistent basis, and to demonstrate a collaborative approach to problem solving.
