POSITION:                  ONE – on - ONE SUPPORT WORKER

HOUR OF WORK:       PART-TIME, (2pm to 5 pm Mon-Thurs, 1 pm to 5pm on Fridays)

REPORTS TO:            LEARNING HOUSE SUPERVISOR / EDUCATION MANAGER

WAGE:                        $29.25 per hour

 

PROGRAM SUMMARY: SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation is dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive educational environment that honours our rich Coast Salish culture and promotes the use of SENĆOŦEN language. We aim to empower every child to reach their full potential through a nurturing and respectful approach.

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Afterschool Care Inclusion (One-on-One) to support children aged 7-10 (grades 2 – 5) with additional physical, behavioural, or developmental needs in our afterschool programs. This role is essential in creating an inclusive atmosphere that fosters engagement and personal growth.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Facilitate participation and adapt activities for a child requiring one-on-one support.
  • Encourage independence and assist in developing the child’s self-confidence.
  • Build effective working relationships with parents, children, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Maintain documentation of the child’s progress as part of their designated care plan.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating a weekly program schedule that promotes social iteractions.
  • Promote safe, healthy, and positive interactions, incorporating aspects of SȾÁUTW̱ culture and language where appropriate.
  • Contribute creative ideas in areas such as arts & crafts, dramatic play, music appreciation, science and nature, and sports.
  • Carries out other duties essential to the position as directed by the Education Manager.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 19 years of age
  • Experience working with children with disabilities or additional support needs
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience working with school-age children (ages 7-10, grades 2-5) with behavioural challenges
  • CLASS 4 driver’s license is an asset
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employment;
