POSITION:                  CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

HOUR OF WORK:        FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK)

REPORTS TO:              HOUSING MANAGER

WAGE RANGE:             $40 - $50/hour

POSITION SUMMARY: Tsawout First Nation (TFN) Housing Department is actively seeking a qualified individual for the position of Construction and Maintenance Supervisor. As part of our dedicated team, you will oversee construction, maintenance and repairs of Tsawout owned buildings and the building systems components.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and trains construction and maintenance department staff.
  • Leads and develops the construction and maintenance team
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of construction and maintenance staff.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the construction and maintenance department.
  • Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
  • Assesses building systems to plan work assignments and project schedules.
  • Develops maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with departmental budget estimates and costs of specific repair projects.
  • Inspect sites regularly to identify problems and necessary maintenance.
  • Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and allocate work as per forecasted workloads.
  • Coordinate daily cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Oversee all repairs and ensure that work is completed on time.
  • Maintain all inventory, equipment and ensure proper storage.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and practices on site.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance work.
  • Conduct follow-ups on all maintenance and repair work.
  • Conduct safety inspections as scheduled.
  • Establish strategies to meet workload demands on time.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of building systems such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules for building systems.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ideally ten years of construction and maintenance experience.
  • Five years of supervisory experience in construction and maintenance
  • Red seal trade certificate is an asset.
  • Valid BC Drivers License and clean drivers abstract is required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employment.
